Nestled right in the heart of historic downtown Tucson just two blocks from the Tucson Visitors Center Royal Elizabeth guests enjoy the perfect downtown location for work or play, conveniently located within easy reach of the most popular (and the most obscure) local and regional attractions. We're also the preferred place to stay if you're taking the Arizona State Bar Exam, administered each February and July just two blocks away. For the July exam, in fact, we limit reservations exclusively for exam registrants.
Whether you are parents of prospective students, are visiting your current students, celebrating a graduation or are on official college business, the Royal Elizabeth is also an ideal place to stay for your visit to the University of Arizona. We are one mile from the Main Gate of the historic campus which makes for a pleasant walk or bike ride in moderate temperatures or a very short drive otherwise. On Friday evenings and all day Saturdays and Sundays you may also ride the Historic Old Pueblo Trolley to the University’s Main Gate The trolley terminus is a short six block walk from The Liz, and, by late 2014 the Old Pueblo Trolley is expected to share a part of its route with a new light rail line to better connect Tucson’s Westside and Downtown to the University and the University Medical Center campus.
Guests at The Royal Elizabeth often leave their cars parked throughout their stay—or don’t bother renting a car at all. Enjoy a short walk from our front porch to many of Tucson’s National Historic Districts including
The Presidio which contains many of the oldest structures in the city, some dating to the early 1800's. You may also walk to the city's premier visual and performing arts venues including the Tucson Museum of Art; the Tucson Convention Center and Tucson Arena; Tucson Symphony Hall and the performance houses for the Arizona Opera; Broadway in Tucson and the Arizona Theatre Company at the historic Temple of Music and Art. If you're more inclined to seek out the eclectic and Bohemian faces of the city, simply stroll to the nearby clubs, bookshops eateries, galleries and boutiques in our Downtown Neighborhoods and in the Fourth Avenue Shopping District. Much to the delight of our guests, many of the city's best dining experiences may also be discovered within blocks of The Royal Elizabeth!
If you are attending a wedding or reception at the Zellweger Mansion (a.k.a. Z Mansion), the Stillwell House or the San Agustin Cathedral, you are also within walking distance from the Royal Elizabeth and we’d be delighted to have you with us.
Downtown Tucson is "keepin' it rural" with two new Farmers' Markets. By connecting local farms and artists directly with local consumers, Tucson has encouraged a movement inwhich it's residence truly enjoy the benefits and bonds of eating local. The Maynard's Farmers' Market, held on Saturdays, is located on the platform of the beautifully restored AMTRAK station. Hosting up to 25 different vendors it's truely a sight to behold as the trains passing through the station. The public market at the Mercado at St. Agustin livens things up with food trucks, live music, and hosts the Santa Cruz Market every Thursday evening.
Of course, there is much to explore by car in and around Tucson. Our close proximity to Interstate 10 allows for easy getaways to the multitude of Southern Arizona's regional historic, cultural and natural attractions. Some of the most popular day trip destinations from The Liz include the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum; Kitt Peak National Observatory; Kartchner Caverns State Park; winter and summer recreation at Mount Lemmon Ski Valley; the historic towns of Bisbee and Tombstone wine tasting in Southern Arizona Wine Country; shopping in Nogales Sonora, Mexico and the birding and hiking hotspots of the vast Coronado National Forest. All of these are within an easy and scenic 60-to-90 minute drive from the front door of The Royal Elizabeth.
For those seeking a tee time you have nearly 20 challenging golf courses from which to choose—most from between ten and thirty minutes from The Liz. We’re also a popular spot to enjoy Spring Training Baseball played just ten minutes away at Tucson Electric Park and Hi Corbett Field. Tucson is proud to be one of the top five bicycling cities in the United States and the region’s system of on-and-off-road trails make for safe and enjoyable bicycle recreation.

We highly suggest that you book your return ticket from the Phoenix airport for no earlier than a 12:00 noon departure—this will allow you to get a full night's sleep, enjoy a
wonderful breakfast and have a more relaxed trip to the Phoenix Airport in post-rush-hour traffic.

Enterprise will even pick you up at The Liz and take you directly to their rental office to pick-up your car--at no additional charge.For those traveling by rail, we are a very short five block walk from the beautiful historic Tucson Train Depot with regular service on Amtrak’s Texas Eagle Line. A Hertz Rent-a-Car location is housed within the Tucson Depot.
